School Nurse Support

The School Nursing service offer a number of workshops for parents/carers on a range of health issues that children & young people might present with. The topics include emotions, behavioural problems, toilet training, common toileting problems, growing up & puberty and bedwetting. This is part of our pathway approach to supporting children and young people. We try and provide the right amount of information and support with the minimal level of intervention. The beginning of the pathway has a focus on guided self help. This means that  when a child is referred to the service and a parent/carer has not previously accessed support for a problem that their child has then we ask them to attend a workshop. Our workshops cover information about the topic area, top tips and strategies to try at home and where to go for further help, advice and support. The workshops are delivered face to face (pre COVID) or via Microsoft Teams (during COVID).

We have now recorded these workshops as webinars and add blogs with lots helpful information and links to other sources of information. The blogs and webinars are on the parent section of our Health for Kid’s website. A child does not need to be referred to our services in order for a parent/carer to access the webinars.

The aim of providing open access the workshops in this way, is so that parents/carer can access information in a more accessible way and at a time that suits them. If parents/carers then require further support for their child they can contact our services directly (the details are in the webinar) or school or other professional can make a referral using our referral form. If the latter is the route used please include on the referral form that the parent/carer has already accessed a webinar. We can then progress the child along our intervention pathway.

Safeguarding and Family Support- Meet Mrs Leonowicz (Safeguarding and Family Support Manager)

Child Mental Health & Wellbeing- 10 Top Tips for Parents

Top 10 Tips to promote child mental health & wellbeing- hear from our Safeguarding Director, Sam Preston

All at St Giles’ are committed to providing the highest standard of teaching and learning, pastoral care and broad co-curricular and extra-curricular experience. Although the school is over 100 years old, the whole school has been fully modernised with the latest technology and resources to create inspiring learning   environments for all our children.

We aim to:

· To provide academic challenge and stimulate a love of learning enabling all children to make good progress from their individual starting point.

· To offer a deep and broad curriculum enriched with quality learning with equality of opportunity for all.

· To develop character, values and morals through a distinctly Christian ethos, valuing all faiths and cultures.

· To maintain close and mutually supportive links with the Church and the Diocese.

· To foster mutually beneficial community and business partnerships.

We are successful primary school with over 400 pupils, aged from three to eleven , with spacious grounds, set within a conservation area overlooked by St Giles Church. As a school, we believe that the most valuable education is one that is broad and balanced, enabling children to enjoy their childhood whilst benefiting from a wonderful range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom. We believe that sport and physical activity is important for growing children and that many important lessons for life are learned in this arena. We are proud to have achieved the School Games Sports Award for three years consecutively and ensure all our children are taught two hours of PE each week with Years 5 and 6 swimming every week throughout the academic year. The school has very close links with Walsall FC and Wednesbury Hockey Club, with the aim  for all our children to represent the school in some aspect of sport during their time at St Giles.

Governors are also fully committed to the Arts and have ensured that all children are taught music by specialists and have the opportunity to play a musical instrument, as well as having specialised dance and gym coaching.

Finally we believe that no education is complete without a spiritual element to it, teaching  children to appreciate beauty, to be creative and to value others. We are extremely proud that St Giles’ C.E. Primary has maintained its ‘Outstanding SIAMS’ again in 2017, and OFSTED's 'Good' rating in 2018!

The Early Years provides a happy and vibrant environment for all its children”
