1.9.18

Dear Parents

All our School Uniform is available to order directly, please visit:

https://www.schooltrends.co.uk/uniform/StGilesCEPrimarySchoolWV132ER

School uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of a school and setting an appropriate tone. Most schools in England have a uniform or dress code, and other rules on appearance.

Schools are strongly encouraged to have a uniform as it can instil pride; support positive behaviour and discipline; encourage identity with, and support for, school ethos; ensure pupils of all races and backgrounds feel welcome; protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way; and nurture cohesion and promote good relations between different groups of pupils.

Above all, the governing body believe that school uniform supports effective teaching and learning.

The governing body at St Giles’ C.E. Primary School has decided that there should be a school uniform and other rules relating to appearance. This flows from the duties placed upon the governing body by statute to conduct the school and to ensure that school policies promote good behaviour and discipline amongst the pupil body.

The governing body has given powers to the Head Teacher to discipline pupils for breach of uniform/appearance policy. Such discipline may include the removal of the right to access the playground at break times/lunchtimes and restricting attendance on school trips or prohibiting pupils representing the school, for example at sports events if the uniform / general appearance fails to meet the agreed uniform / general appearance expectations of the school.

The school will endeavour to engage with parents and provide time to purchase the required items and/or consider whether a school or local authority clothing grant can be supplied, if a family is under extreme financial pressure.

I do appreciate that the vast majority of pupils attend school dressed appropriately, and thank you for continuing to support the school in our aim to provide a first class education for all our pupils.

Following a meeting of the Governors on 22.9.16 the Uniform Policy was amended to amended to include the following:
