  Department for Education coronavirus (COVID-19) helpline

  The Department for Education coronavirus (COVID-19) helpline is available to answer questions about coronavirus (COVID-19) relating to education and children’s social care. Staff, parents and young people can contact this helpline by calling:

  Dear Parents,

   

  Y6 Pupils - Secondary Transfer Arrangements for 2021

   

  The secondary admissions round for September 2021 is now open for applications. Please see attached a letter for distribution to all parents of year 6 children that are resident in Walsall. 

   

  In line with the published admission arrangements, parents are required to submit their applications online and will not be issued with paper forms.

   

  Officers from the School Admissions Team will be in regular contact with primary schools throughout the application period to provide schools with lists of those children for whom the Local Authority has yet to receive a secondary school application. This will enable schools and the School Admissions Team to identify those families that require support with the application process and ensure that appropriate support is provided.

  The closing date for applications to be submitted is 31 October 2020 (10pm) however the Local Authority is advising parents to complete and submit their applications by 23 October 2020 given that the statutory deadline falls at the end of half term week.

  Symptoms of coronavirus in children

   

  The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot, for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • a loss or change to sense of smell or taste – this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

  What to do if your child has symptoms

   

  If your child has any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:

  1. Get a test to check if they have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get the test result – only leave your home to have a test.

  Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get the result.

  What is a support bubble?

   

  Important

  Get advice from NHS 111 if you're worried about your child or not sure what to do.

  • For children aged 5 or over – use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service.
  • For children under 5 – call 111.

  What to do if your child seems very unwell

   

  Children and babies will still get illnesses that can make them very unwell quickly. It's important to get medical help if you need it.

  Urgent advice:Call 111 or your GP surgery if your child:

  • is under 3 months old and has a temperature of 38C or higher, or you think they have a fever
  • is 3 to 6 months old and has a temperature of 39C or higher, or you think they have a fever
  • has other signs of illness, such as a rash, as well as a high temperature (fever)
  • has a high temperature that's lasted for 5 days or more
  • does not want to eat, or is not their usual self and you're worried
  • has a high temperature that does not come down with paracetamol
  • is dehydrated – for example, nappies are not very wet, sunken eyes, and no tears when they're crying

  Immediate action required:Call 999 if your child:

  • has a stiff neck
  • has a rash that does not fade when you press a glass against it (use the "glass test" from Meningitis Now)
  • is bothered by light
  • has a seizure or fit for the first time (they cannot stop shaking)
  • has unusually cold hands and feet
  • has pale, blotchy, blue or grey skin
  • has a weak, high-pitched cry that's not like their usual cry
  • is drowsy and hard to wake
  • is extremely agitated (does not stop crying) or is confused
  • finds it hard to breathe and sucks their stomach in under their ribs
  • has a soft spot on their head that curves outwards
  • is not responding like they usually do, or not interested in feeding or usual activities

  

• Morning Drop Off Update

  Dear Parents

   

  When dropping off KS1 and KS2 in the morning – note that the window for drop off is between 8.30am and 8.45am.

   

  Please do not arrive earlier than this as we really need to discourage gatherings. Please wear face masks and avoid holding conversations with other parents.

   

  Please arrive on time but not early.

   

  If collecting older children at 3.15pm note that Reception pick up is from 3.15pm-3.25pm. Please collect older children first from the Wakes Ground Car Park then walk down to school. Please wear face coverings.

  Dear Parents

   

  Thank you for supporting us with the implementation of new procedures to minimise the potential spread of infections.

   

  Children have returned to school positive, enthusiastic and  excited to learn and have clearly continued with their learning during lockdown prior to the summer break.

   

  In order to provide a Covid-19 secure collection at the beginning/end of the day please take note of the following:

   

  1) When dropping off/collecting please wear a disposable or cloth facemask.

  2) Ensure only 1 family member drops off/collects at the end of the day.

  3) Be on time but  not early. If you do find yourself in an ‘early queue’ please wear a face mask.

  4) When collecting, please stand clear of the field gates until your child’s class is called. (We are having another gate installed next week to ease entry/exit)

  5) Congratulate your child/ren on a super start back to school.
