    Children born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 are due to transfer to a secondary school (year 7) in September 2023.

    The closing date for applications is 31 October 2022. If you apply late, you may not get a place at one of your preferred schools.

    If you live outside Walsall, you should complete an application from your home local authority (even if you are applying for a Walsall school).

    Before you apply

    You should:

    • explore school websites, read school admissions policies and entry criteria. This will help you understand how schools make their admissions decisions
    • try to attend school open evenings. Speak to staff, and ask about the admissions criteria they used last year. Some schools may be holding their open evenings virtually. Individual school websites will have the most up-to-date information
    • think about how your child will travel to and from school

    Deciding on your school preferences

    You should include five schools on your application, and list them in order of preference. If you only express a preference for a single school, you risk being offered a place that you are unhappy with. You should also choose schools that your child has a realistic chance of getting in to.

    Walsall Council has a duty to offer your child a school place. We always try to meet your first choice, but sometimes we receive more applications than the school has places available. We'll then try to offer your next highest preference.  If we cannot meet any of your preferences, we will offer you a place in the nearest school to your home address with available places. We will also put your child’s name on the waiting list for your preferred schools.

    If your child is already of school age, you can apply direct to your preferred schools during the school year. This is known as a mid-year admission or transfer.

    • what to do if you live near a borough boundary and want to apply for a school in another authority
    • which schools are their own admissions authority

    Applying for schools outside Walsall

    If you live in Walsall but any of your preferred schools are outside Walsall Borough, you can still apply in the same way. Walsall Council runs a co-ordinated admissions scheme with neighbouring councils and admissions authorities, so you only have to complete one application.

    When you need to apply

    To apply for a September 2023 place, complete our online application by 31 October 2022. You can use the application portal every day from 8am to 9.30pm.

    If you miss the closing date of 31 October 2022 your application will be regarded as late. This will reduce your chances of being offered a preferred school.

    If you change the name or ranking of a school after the closing date, your application will be treated as late. If you want to make changes, email us and tell us:

    • your child's full name
    • their date of birth
    • your home address
    • what changes you want to make

    Late applications received up to 4 weeks after the closing date (between 1 and 29 November 2022)

    We will process your application as late. You will receive your offer after the secondary offer notification date.

    We will accept late applications as being on time if:

    • you were unable to submit your online application on time because you moved into the Borough of Walsall after the closing date
    • exceptional circumstances prevented you from submitting your online application
    • you are a single parent and have been ill for some time

    You will need to explain why your application is late and may need to provide supporting evidence.

    VIDEO BOOKS & ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY TOGETHER

    Take ten minutes to share stories with your little ones. Our Share A Story Corner videos have familiar characters and easy to follow stories, and tips for reading together. Look at the pictures together, guess what the characters are up to and ask your child what they think will happen next. Your child will soon be asking to read together again and again!

    It’s never too early to read stories with your child and spending just ten minutes every day enjoying books together can make a BIG difference to their development. Sharing stories boosts creativity and imagination, improves wellbeing, is a positive experience for parents, carers, guardians, grandparents – everyone! – and is great fun!

    Put Out Into The Deep

     

    After a night of unsuccessful fishing, ‘put out into the deep’ was an instruction Jesus gave to Simon Peter, James and John: words which changed their lives!

     

    This week children considered the power of Jesus’ words, matched only by the power of His actions: miracles.

     

    Children learned about the difference between miracles and natural occurrences and watched an interpretation of the Gospel where Simon Peter met Jesus, followed His instructions, witnessed a miracle, left His nets and followed Him.

  • School Catering Winter Menu

    Dear Parents

     

    Please find attached the new Walsall School Catering Winter Menus. Please check the dates carefully as menus change each week. 

     

    I am aware that last week one meal option, for one of the days was not available, this was due to supply issues, however an appropriate substitute was substituted. There are always four complete meal options available for the children, which are all prepared and cooked on-site. 

     

    The information Emailed contains contact details for the Walsall Council Catering Team who are all available for you to reach out to.

    Dear Parents

     
    There have been reports today of children sharing that they are viewing content/series/films that are not suitable for them on Netflix, which is causing distress and upset.
     
    Please find attached a Netflix Safety Checklist to use to protect your child from inappropriate content. 
     
    Suggested points of reminder for parents -
     
    1.     Don’t share your account details with anyone else
     
    2.    Use a child safe account and enable parental controls
     
    3.    Set profile locks and maturity settings for the child accounts
     
    4.    Monitor and talk regularly to your children about what they are watching or want to watch

    1.     Always check with a trusted adult before you watch something new
     
    2.    Make sure you have a child account set up on streaming services

  • Get Set for Tokyo!

    Travel to Tokyo


    To celebrate the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we're inviting  families to get active with our virtual Travel to Tokyo challenge, Team GB and ParalympicsGB’s free programme for children aged 5 to 11 and their families.


    Travelling in school teams, children will gain kilometres by logging their physical activity on the Travel to Tokyo website. Travel to Tokyo is all about getting active at home as well as in school, so teams will travel quicker by logging activity with their family. By taking part, pupils will grow in confidence and learn vital skills, such as teamwork and resilience, as well as having the chance to win exciting prizes along the way.


    Teams will take the tourist route, travelling 47,349 kilometres and stopping off en route at cities which have hosted, or will soon host, an Olympic and Paralympic Games.
    Travel to Tokyo is all about team spirit, so all participants belong to a school team. These have been automatically created for every primary school in the UK so you can immediately start logging activity against your team. You can get active alone or with family, at home or outdoors. Dancing in the kitchen, video workouts in the lounge, walking in the park or playing tag - it all counts towards your journey to Tokyo!

    This week, the school site was professionally mapped to enable the school to teach and provide  orienteering opportunities throughout the school.

     

    Orienteering is an outdoor physical activity develops map reading, fitness, confidence and the ability to make decisions.

     

  • Telescopes for Home Loan Programme

    we have a telescope that can be borrowed from school to     observe the night sky from your own garden. If you would like to borrow the telescope for a week long loan, please contact the School Office.

     

    The telescope will need collecting by a parent and returned to school once the  loan period has been completed.
